Driving AI-Powered Drug Discovery in Partnership with Pfizer (Videos from PMWC 2025)

Last month we had the pleasure of hosting a session on knowledge graphs, LLMs and foundation models in pharmaceutical R&D at the 2025 Precision Medicine World Conference in Santa Clara, CA (PMWC 2025).

The session speakers - Paul Rejto, PhD, Vice President, Discovery Technologies at Pfizer and Janusz Dutkowski, PhD, Data4Cure's CEO - highlighted applications of knowledge graph and AI technologies to inform drug development and discussed a recently-announced partnership between Data4Cure and Pfizer focused on these topics.

Dr. Paul Rejto discussed the significant progress in oncology drug development while at the same time highlighting some of the key challenges. He underscored the need to capture, integrate and contextualize the results from thousands of internal and public studies in order to derive meaningful and reproducible insights from complex biological data. He discussed the key goals behind Pfizer's partnership with Data4Cure, including

  1. Enabling consistent analyses of the data and continuous integration of results into the knowledge graph providing an iterative positive feedback loop for knowledge and insight generation;
  2. Contextualizing results across thousands of studies and enabling their side-by-side comparison;
  3. Integrating AI and LLMs on top of the knowledge graph and integrated data to enable access to the integrated knowledge and insights to all researchers across the organization and drive value for R&D.

Janusz Dutkowski provided an overview of Data4Cure's Biomedical Intelligence Cloud platform including the DataHub for semantic data integration, the Biomedical App Engine for data analysis, the data-driven knowledge graph and AI applications. He discussed how Data4Cure helps Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies drive value from vast amounts of public and internal data, including by

  1. Scaling the analyses and facilitating contextual interpretation of thousands of studies;
  2. Building a continuously updated data-driven knowledge graph integrating public and private data;
  3. Applying an array of advanced AI technologies including LLMs, foundation models and knowledge graph AI to derive insights and provide easy-to-interpret reports for pharmaceutical researchers.
